Celebrating the Strength, Grace, and Worth of Womanhood

International Women’s Day was celebrated on 7th March 2026 by Jeevandhara Social Service Trust in collaboration with Shubadha Society and St Raymond’s Degree College, bringing together 140 participants for a meaningful and inspiring gathering dedicated to honoring the dignity and strength of women.

The programme began with a warm welcome by Mrs Sujatha of Sadhana SHG, who greeted the gathering and set the tone for the celebration. The event was gracefully compered by Sr Ileene Joy and Mrs Veena, who guided the audience through the various segments of the programme.

A special highlight of the day was an inspiring 45-minute talk by Mrs Irine Rebello, a well-known councillor from the Mangalore vicinity. In her address, she spoke powerfully about recognizing the worth of womanhood and bringing out the best in every woman, encouraging participants to value their identity, strengths, and role in shaping families and society.

The formal programme followed with Mr Anil Lobo, Chairman of MCC Bank, as the Chief Guest, and Sr Suma BS as the President of the programme. In his address, Mr Anil Lobo expressed heartfelt appreciation for the Bethany Sisters and their valuable contribution to society. He also acknowledged their significant support to MCC Bank and encouraged the women present to empower themselves and actively participate in building a better community.

In her presidential address, Sr. Suma BS thanked God for the precious gift of women and encouraged them to be responsible and nurturing figures in their families, emphasizing that well-formed families contribute to a stronger future society.

The celebration was enriched with cultural performances. Members of Sadhana SHG presented a beautiful dance, adding joy and vibrancy to the programme. The tailoring students of Jeevandhara Social Service Trust performed a touching tableau on “Amma”, which deeply moved the audience and brought many to tears, reminding everyone of the immeasurable value and sacrifice of mothers and women.

Another meaningful moment of the programme was the screening of a documentary film highlighting the ordinary yet extraordinary lives of women and their daily contributions to family and society. The film served as a powerful reminder of the strength, resilience, and dedication of women in everyday life.

“We are honored to celebrate Celestine Crasta, an inspiring elderly woman from our SHG group, who has undertaken a remarkable 4-day long-distance foot walk for a social cause. Her courage and selflessness have inspired many and will undoubtedly motivate future generations to follow in her footsteps.”

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mrs Rekha Stephania, who expressed gratitude to the Speakers, Guests, Performers, and all participants who made the celebration memorable.

The event was truly a meaningful and heartfelt celebration of womanhood, inspiring everyone present to appreciate the dignity, courage, and invaluable role of women in society.
