Five-Day Bag Making Training at Jeevandhara Social Service Trust
Jeevandhara Social Service Trust witnessed a meaningful step towards women’s empowerment with the inauguration of a five-day Bag Making Training Programme on 21 September 2026. The programme was organised with the aim of equipping women with practical skills that could open doors to self-reliance, livelihood opportunities and greater confidence.
The inaugural programme began with a note of encouragement, inspiring the participants to make use of the opportunities and skills being offered to them by Sr Lavita Moras. The programme was compered by Sr Jessy Rita, who guided the proceedings with warmth and enthusiasm.
The five-day training was conducted by Mrs Harina J Rao, Ex Chairperson of the District Small Industries Association, Women’s Wing, Yeyyadi, Mangaluru, who served as the resource person. With patience, dedication and hands-on guidance, she trained the participants in the art of making different varieties of bags.
Throughout the five days, 33 women eagerly learned, practised and developed their skills. What began as simple pieces of fabric and material gradually took shape in their hands as attractive and useful bags. More importantly, the training helped them discover that their own hands could become a means of creativity, confidence and livelihood.
The participants were empowered to make a variety of bags, gaining not only a practical skill but also the confidence to explore possibilities for earning an income. The atmosphere throughout the training was filled with enthusiasm, cooperation and a willingness to learn.
The programme concluded on 25 September 2026 with the distribution of certificates to the participants. It was a particularly joyful moment to see the glow on the faces of the women as they received recognition for their efforts and achievement.
Three participants from the group also shared their experiences, expressing their gratitude for the opportunity to learn a new skill. Their reflections revealed how meaningful such initiatives can be in building confidence and opening new avenues for the future.
At Jeevandhara Social Service Trust, the programme stands as a reminder that when women are given opportunities, guidance and encouragement, their hands can create much more than products—they can create hope, dignity and new pathways for livelihood.
